Stolen Jeffy's (Homemade Salted Twix)

Last week I attempted to make Homemade Twix for the first time.

They were super easy and delicious. For my first try I kept things simple. Shortbread biscuits, a can of Caramel top n fill, rock salt and chocolate melts.

Lay out the biscuits on a baking tray, spread the caramel over the top, sprinkle rock salt (optional...but delicious), refrigerate overnight, cut up, coat in chocolate and consume.

In our house when we make something that we know we'll make again we give it a special name for future reference. These were renamed 'Stolen Jeffy's' due to a story which has been told in the Carter family long before I was around about a twix bar which belonged to my father in law. It was consumed by someone else in the house and no one ever owned up to it. To this day you cannot mention Twix without Jeffy ranting about his stolen one.

BJ felt the name was very appropriate.

Everyone seemed to enjoy them... Except for my niece Kaia who said 'They don't taste as good as they look'. Thanks Kaia.

How I Met Your Mother Finale Party

At the start of April it was time to suit up and say goodbye to How I Met Your Mother.

We have always enjoyed the series even though we feel it started to drag a fair bit, and this last season being completely focused around Robin and Barney's wedding was getting old... But the finale was almost perfect.

I don't want to post any spoilers incase people haven't seen it but the last episode really wrapped everything up beautifully... I just wished it had of ended about 2 minutes earlier. Then i would have been completed satisfied.

BJ and I love finale parties but we had been a bit preoccupied and even though we had plenty of ideas, we hadn't implemented any of them.

Sadly, in the end everything we had for our finale party was made the day of, during my lunch break.

Pictured: BJ and I suiting up, The all important graphs, an intervention sign, and a blue french horn above the TV.

Unfortunately i didn't get photos of everything. We did have some sumbitches to enjoy and i decorated a bottle of pineapple soft drink to look like a real pineapple.

The next finale party we have will be for Californication, which i feel is going to be a bit of a challenge but i will do my best.

Sooo... What's new with you?

First post of 2014... Mid April.... How embarrassing!

I know what the three of you who read this are thinking... Where have you been?

My last post for 2013 had me promise a lot of things I haven't delivered yet:

'2014 will include more blogging, more Fork This, as well as a lot of goals I am setting for myself and will work hard to achieve. I plan to have another VERY productive year.'

So this year I've slacked on the blog, We had a Fork This hiatus for a couple of months and my goals have been put on the back burner a bit.

But all that is about to change.

So here is what's new...

We have a new family member!!

FBI Regional Bureau Chief Gordon Cole

We brought Gordon home at the start of March, he was 8 weeks of age and weighing 598grams. He is now almost 14 weeks old and a week ago just cracked 1kg. Gordon is a mid-hair chihuahua, he's chocolate and tan with white socks and a white half collar. When we got him he had blue eyes but recently they turned more of a hazel colour.

Gordon LOVES the hell out of Cooper and just wants to play with him every minute of the day... Cooper tolerates Gordon and tries to keep his cool while Gordon is biting on his tail and barking in his face.

We started puppy school last week his homework is to practise 'sitting' on command.

He is absolutely insane and we love him soo much.

Once we got Gordon we finally get back into Fork This and there are LOTS of Gordon related episodes that are not to be missed

Oh and we've done some cooking on the podcast too

We also finally painted the craft room and now I'm just in need of the perfect set of shelves to organise the shit out of all my stuff. BJ has started his 'manly' project of sanding back and re-staining an outdoor bench. He has also created a few delicious burgers that are now on regular rotation in our house. The newest one being a replica of a McDonald's Big Mac, which we've named a 'Bernie Mac'.

We spent all of March having a Parks and Recreation marathon which we've loved every minute of and also recently watched The Room for the first time and it is now ALL we talk about. We plan on going to a screening of it soon which we are really looking forward to.

Coming up is Easter weekend, followed by Anzac Day so we are getting two long weekends to enjoy.
And here are my goals by the end of these two weeks.

* I will blog about our How I Met Your Mother season finale party (Which was pretty pathetic compared to previously finale parties we've had)

* I will attempt to make my first Terrarium. I have brought everything i need, just need a little motivation to put it all together

* There will be at least two new food related Fork This episodes filmed

Now, to get back to a lazy Sunday with my boys. Gordon is currently trying to take Cooper's duck off him. Cooper thinks licking Gordon's face will stop this from happening.

2013 Wrap Up

Wow! What a year!

2013 is coming to an end and I have to say it's been my most favourite year yet.

I was lucky enough to marry the love of my life and go adventuring around the USA for a glorious month.

I was able to see friends that I have been apart from for far too long and celebrate over and over again with everyone I love.

BJ and I had the wedding we truly wanted. We wanted to have a fun day with family and friends but didn't want to spend a lot of money as we wanted to honeymoon in America and continue a month's long celebration. We made a lot of the decorations and call in favours where ever we could. It was such a relaxing, joyful day and i would not change a thing.

The honeymoon was amazing!

It had been years since we saw some of our friends overseas and we did not want to waste a second while we were over there. We kept ourselves very busy and had lots of adventures. (We finally saw Niagara Falls.... Wow!!)

We were both very much overworked this year. Saving every cent we could for our wedding/honeymoon. As well as working hard to save up our holiday hours. But it was worth it to have the honeymoon we both dreamed of.

This year we have also brought a new family car and finally got rid of BJ's egg mobile.

Tonight BJ, Cooper and I are going to hang out together with some homemade burgers (which I can hear BJ making right now) and celebrate the wonderful year we are saying goodbye to. We will bring in 2014 together. A NEW year which I plan to be just a good... If not better.

PS: 2014 will include more blogging, more Fork This, as well as a lot of goals I am setting for myself and will work hard to achieve. I plan to have another VERY productive year.

PPS: Thank you to everyone who helped make this year soo amazing. Happy 2014 Everyone!

Breaking Sad

This week we said goodbye to an amazing show. BJ and I love TV and Breaking Bad has been such an awesome show from start to finish.

And when every great show comes to an end we like to have a finale party. I like to go all out and make decorations and edibles that reference the show. This has become a bit of a tradition for us since the LOST Finale, and recently we had a party for the returning season of Arrested Development.

So the big Breaking Bad finale was coming up and we had a massive list of ideas. We only had a couple of weeks after getting back from the honeymoon (will blog that about that soon) to prepare for the big night.

Here are some photos from the glorious evening..... and of course we also did a Fork This episode for you

Busy! Busy! Busy!

I can not begin to tell you how busy i have been this year.

On top of working full time running an office, i have also been trying to plan a DIY wedding... It's not as easy as it sounds.

I have had more then a few occasions where the tears have just started and could not be stopped because I've been soo overwhelmed with what's going on.

With exactly 5 weeks to the wedding I've come to realise that I cannot do it all myself. As much as I want to.

I have started to give jobs to others who are willing to help (as much as i don't want to) but still i have soo much to do.

This next month is going to be ridiculously busy.

This probably sounds horrible but I'm very much looking forward to the whole thing being over. I'll be happy to be rid of all this extra stress and be heading on our honeymoon to celebrate with friends overseas.

Today i had what i call my non hens party with family and close friends. I called it 'Goodbye Newman'. It is the only way i could force myself to take an afternoon off and just get excited about what the next month will bring.

My sisters went with the Seinfeld theme and we all had a lovely afternoon full of good food and laughter.

Thank you to everyone who came to celebrate with me.

Oh and here is this week's Fork This
