What The Flock - Audrey's Three!

This week Audrey celebrated her 3rd birthday and it's been a full week of festivities.

It was a really fun one this year. I've been looking forward to the year that Audrey picks the theme for her party and she didn't disappoint when she picked a FLAMINGO PARTY!

I got her to decide about 3 months ago so I could get started on planning and prepping everything. Which has meant that for the last 3 months she's told us that 'tomorrow is her birthday' and we've had to explain that she was wrong.

It's been a full on year with the shop and i've been single parenting it a lot because of BJ's hours and i've been feeling really guilty about Aude having to spend a lot of time at home while i'm working my two jobs so I wanted to throw her a really fun party. I needed as much time as possible to make this party happen.

Audrey made a list of who she wanted to invite and I did the rest. I designed the invitations, made the decorations, the snacks and the cake of course.

I design all of our invitations and I had a lot of fun with this one. Really happy with how it turned out.

Once the invitation was out of the way I planned out all the other decorations and started bringing them to life. The thing I actually slacked on this year was the cake. I usually have a very detailed plan of what i'm going to make with drawings and even test cakes but this year I just had a vague idea of what I wanted to do. I whipped together the topper the week before her party and the rest of the cake I threw together the day before.

I also managed to find a few minutes to chuck together some cute cookies.

I was really proud of the paper garland I made for the wall. I honestly wasn't sure how it was going to turn out but I spent ages with my silhouette curio cutting out all the leaves and flowers and am really happy with the final result. It's been hanging up for 2 weeks now because I didn't want to have to do EVERYTHING on the day of the party. And it may be up for another 3 hahaha.

On top of the decorations we had a couple of games. Flamingo ring toss and Pass the parcel. Wasn't sure how Pass the parcel was going to go with a bunch of 3 year olds but it was a total success. And lastly, I couldn't resist in getting a giant inflatable flamingo for the kids to go nuts on. Surprisingly, it didn't pop and it was a huge hit.
Best $20 ever spent!

Zoo Adventure

I have been planning this trip to the zoo for a while. We've had to reschedule a few times due to everyone getting sick, but FINALLY this weekend we got there.

BJ and I have had a busy couple of days, so the early start Saturday morning was not ideal but we wanted to get in there early.

On the way we picked up my niece, Kaia who has just celebrated her 11th birthday and into the city we went.

It is such a short drive to get to the zoo now, not like when we were little.

First thing we did when we got in was get the camera out, only to find that the battery didn't charge. I was sooo disappointed! I'd plugged it in the night before and left it to charge till morning. What the hell man?!

I very quickly got over that when I saw a sign that said 'free ranging lemurs'..... yes please!!!!

It was soo cool to see them up close and roaming wherever they pleased. They had these cute little huts and when you looked inside you would just see a massive pile of them all balled up together sleeping.

From there the day only got better. Audrey finally got to see a hippo, which is the animal she was talking about for the whole drive. It was a little bit of a let down because he has his butt to us and she couldn't see what it was. But that's ok because she got to see sooo many other cool animals.

Watching her face when she finally spots one in their enclosure was the best.

The animals were out to put on a show. The tiger came right up to the glass, the orangutans were playing peek-a-boo, the elephant was playing with his ball and the tapirs were doing whatever tapirs do.

There were only a few that couldn't be spotted in their enclosure.

Through all the monkey enclosures Audrey would wave at each monkey and say 'helllooo' then kiss the glass every time she saw one. It was soo entertaining (and quite unhygienic)

We went around a corner and there was this weird lady parked in front of a window watching the spider monkeys. I got really excited because one was albino and I said 'look Audrey that one is white' and the lady responds 'That's the female!!'

I smiled and continued my conversation with Audrey. 'Wow, look! What's that one eating, Audrey?' And the lady replies 'He WAS eating corn before!!!'

I named that lady 'The Queen of the Zoo'. (We saw her several times that day.)

The highlight of the day was watching Audrey's reaction to the seals and the stingrays. She loves watching them swim around and when we went above ground one of the seals jumped out of the water and she thought it was the greatest thing ever!!!

In the butterfly enclosure I FINALLY had a butterfly land on me, but BJ wasn't fast enough with his camera to get a photo.

Audrey did soo much walking.... and eating. She was really good and only had a few moments where she lost it, mostly because she was exhausted.

While we were at the giant tortoises, one of the tortoises started climbing on the other. It was standing up on the side of the tortoise which looks really funny. This strange woman comes up with her kids (who were maybe a little older than Audrey) and starts telling them about how 'When Charles Darwin first saw a giant tortoise he thought he could ride them'... then she looked up and saw the tortoise climbing up on the other one and in the same breath says 'oh and that tortoise is climbing on top of the other tortoise!! Let's go kids!!'

I thought she was joking and I laughed sooo hard... but no, she was serious which made me laugh even harder and she did not appreciate that.

She walked off in a hurry while the kids cried about not getting to see the tortoise.

I probably shouldn't have laughed at her but it was just too funny. I mean it's a tortoise, they aren't the fastest animals so even if it was climbing up to get it's mate on, that wasn't going to happen for a loooooooooooooooooooooooong time.

So I named that lady 'The Prude of the Zoo'.

7 years ago we took Kaia to the zoo. She was nearly 4 at the time and it was fun to go back with her and remember all the things we did that day. The best memory of that trip was that Kaia was a map nazi. No one else was allowed to touch or even look at the map. She was sooo interested in the map that she didn't pay attention to the animals and eventually we had to make the map disappear.

We decide to re-take a couple of photos from that trip with Kaia and I just love them.

At the end of our adventure we went into the gift shop to let Audrey pick a toy. We walked out with a hippo and a tapir toy and she's spent the rest of the weekend feeding them and telling Gordon & Cooper that they are hers.

It was such a fun day and I can't wait to do it again. Next time we plan to go to Werribee Open Range Zoo.

2013 Wrap Up

Wow! What a year!

2013 is coming to an end and I have to say it's been my most favourite year yet.

I was lucky enough to marry the love of my life and go adventuring around the USA for a glorious month.

I was able to see friends that I have been apart from for far too long and celebrate over and over again with everyone I love.

BJ and I had the wedding we truly wanted. We wanted to have a fun day with family and friends but didn't want to spend a lot of money as we wanted to honeymoon in America and continue a month's long celebration. We made a lot of the decorations and call in favours where ever we could. It was such a relaxing, joyful day and i would not change a thing.

The honeymoon was amazing!

It had been years since we saw some of our friends overseas and we did not want to waste a second while we were over there. We kept ourselves very busy and had lots of adventures. (We finally saw Niagara Falls.... Wow!!)

We were both very much overworked this year. Saving every cent we could for our wedding/honeymoon. As well as working hard to save up our holiday hours. But it was worth it to have the honeymoon we both dreamed of.

This year we have also brought a new family car and finally got rid of BJ's egg mobile.

Tonight BJ, Cooper and I are going to hang out together with some homemade burgers (which I can hear BJ making right now) and celebrate the wonderful year we are saying goodbye to. We will bring in 2014 together. A NEW year which I plan to be just a good... If not better.

xx
Smorgy

PS: 2014 will include more blogging, more Fork This, as well as a lot of goals I am setting for myself and will work hard to achieve. I plan to have another VERY productive year.

PPS: Thank you to everyone who helped make this year soo amazing. Happy 2014 Everyone!

April Album - The April Skyline

BJ's Words:

I had an idea to dedicate the album to one of the gentlemen that are doing this music experiment with me, the artwork was very difficult to decide on and I made probably 7-8 different covers, with this one winning out. I'm still not very impressed with the small text or the way it looks, but it was better than the other 6 or 7. After this album I picked up my game with design and took it more seriously.

Artwork:

Tracklist:

Fork This 69 - I'm Frank Fritz

I came across this wonderful sounding place that was choc-full of antiques so BJ and I decided to head there this weekend. It's called Waverley Antique Bazaar and its a massive warehouse which holds 170 stalls with such a huge variety of different things to purchase.

We spent 4 hours in there, soaking it all in... There was taxidermy, furniture and clothes... plus randomness... They even had a pair of Spiderman legs.

Enjoy

We will definitely be going back

Fork This 52 - ONE YEAR!

Today marks one year of us doing our video podcast 'Fork This'.
We have had so much fun doing it and hope that you've all enjoyed watching it.

To celebrate this milestone we weren't quiet sure what to do for the episode so we went hunting through our old videos to see what we could find.

Two Months

This week marks two months that BJ and I have been in our house. I think we've surprised a lot of people (especially our families) with how easily we've dealt with this huge change.

We both love it! It feels like we've been living like this for ages. Feels like home.

I think people expect us to have struggled with it. Had days where we've been homesick or mopey. But that hasn't been the case at all.

We've just been happy!

Happy to come home every night and cook dinner together while Cooper watches. Happy to snuggle up on our couch and watch TV. Happy to clean dishes, do gardening and wash clothes.

I wouldn't change my life right now, for anything in the world.

Fork This 35 - Moving Day

This episode of Fork This was recorded during moving day.

The day started with BJ and I enjoying our first breakfast in our new house. BJ then went with the truck at his parents house while i was organizing and unpack at our house. We had a few trips to make in the truck and the plan was to film quiet a bit of us loading and un-loading, moving, unpacking etc... But that didn't really happen and in this is all the footage we got from that day.

I will do another blog soon with some stories from this day.

Fork This 34 - We're In

Sadly, Fork This is running a bit behind at the moment and so is my blog.

The reason... No Internet!!!

We've moved into our house and have been in almost 2 weeks and it has been such a hassle to get the internet sorted. We are HOPING to have it sorted by the end of this week... Cross your fingers.

We have only had our iPhones and a iPad (on loan) to help us keep up with the world. I did try to blog from the iPad but it really doesn't like Blogger so that was frustrating.

I cut together this episode of Fork This and we uploaded it at a family dinner last week. We filmed ourselves going to the house for the first time after getting our keys and you get to see it :)

There will be lot's more house videos to follow

1 more sleep

I've had two terrible nights sleep. I'm sure it's just stress and worry about Thursday. But now, There's only one sleep left and I think I'll actually sleep well.

It's a strange feeling... Moving out of home for the first time and last night is when it really hit us both hard... Really hard!

We've both never lived out of home before and BJ has actually never moved house (not even rooms) before. This is VERY new to us and obviously it is a BIG deal.

We will now be responsible for everything. Paying bills. Buying food. Cooking meals. Maintaining the yard.

The bigness of it all, i don't think will truly hit us for a few weeks. Once we've actually stopped unpacking and people aren't coming by so often to help us... Then it'll hit us.

We will actually be adults!

I've cried most of last night and I can't really tell you why... I don't really know.
I think it's just an array of emotions; happiness, sadness, worried, stressed. All built up to the brim and needing to escape.

I'm soo excited to be moving out. Having my own place. Most importantly I'm just excited that finally i'll be with BJ every day. That's been the hardest part of our relationship. Not seeing each other as often as we'd like. After traveling for 6 months and spending every day together and relying on each other it was hard to go back to our separate homes. It's been 3 years since then... A long time.

But next to the excitement I'm feeling very anxious about everything that's about to happen. Worrying about what COULD go wrong. What IF this happens.

I mean BJ knows of my craziness... But living with me 24/7 is a whole new percolator of fish and I just don't know that he's truly ready for that level of craziness.

I'm currently lying on my bed which is a mattress on the floor. My room has been gutted and very little remains in here.

Today my list of things to do was a mile long. I had to finish packing, do running around for settlement, sort our the plans for Thursday... And soo much more.

I actually have to go into work tomorrow (Thursday) morning for about an hour to do a couple of important jobs... One's I hope I don't fuck up because my brain will not 100% there.
At 2.30pm we will recieve a call and then... We can go get OUR keys!

And with that, I'm going to try and get some sleep. Right this minute it's 15 hours and 7 minutes till settlement.. Till it's ours!!

xx

Homemade Christmas Hampers

Because BJ and I have just purchased a house we did Christmas on the cheap side and decided to make all our siblings homemade hampers with lot's of tasty treats inside.

We decided to make lollipops (Which we didn't burn this time), coloured popcorn, coconut balls (With coloured coconut), gingerbread (Snails, squirrels, hedgehogs - You know, the usual thing) and candy cane meringues... plus we included an invited to dinner at our house and a heap of chocolates.

Coloured Coconut
Mustache Lollipops
Coloured Popcorn

As a lot of the stuff we decided to make doesn't really have a long shelf live we were literally cooking our arses off Christmas Eve to get it all finished... AND then i still had to put the hampers together and make them all look pretty.

I had this little cardboard boxes in amongst my craft supplies which i used, lined them with some of the brown packing paper we used to wrap our other presents, stamped them to look all pretty and then filled the box with the goodies.

Of course we did post a Fork This episode about this which you can watch here.

Here are some close up photos of the finished hampers

Wild Bore Xmas

Soon after BJ and I start our podcast Fork This BJ and our mates Pat and Speds started an audio podcast called Wild Bore. (I recommend you all listen to it as it's very entertaining.)

Not longer after they started the podcast BJ and I went garage saling and I found a chocolate mold of bore heads.... That's right!!

I decided right then that i would spend the 50cents and buy that chocolate mold and make the members of Wild Bore a christmas present they'll never forget.

Now i know i've already blogged a little bit about this as we did a Fork This episode of us creating these presents but i thought i'd show you some more photos of the finished products and also the faces of the recipients.

If you missed the episode of Fork This here it is ...And this is the final product

Speds
Pat
BJ

I didn't noticed till just now that none of them look happy about their gift in their photos hahaha.

I'm soo happy with how these turned out. A couple of issues i had were that the mold was difficult to release the chocolate without it breaking (I had a chocolate bore graveyard by the end of the day.) I was also planning to 'mount' the bore head to a cookie but had a few issues making that work. I think the shield with the Wild Bore logo turned out awesome.
Also, they were a BITCH to wrap.

I plan to make lot's of bore heads in the future. Think i'll try and do a resin bore for something.

Good Effort if i do say so myself. Next year I will probably increase it more. With BJ and I moving in together we will have a lot more time to watch movies (AND TV shows).

I should really do a blog like this for TV shows but it's a hard one because there are soo many series we started this year as well as one's we've continued from past years. There is soo much GREAT TV out there at the moment so i might just mention some of my favourites currently.

Great Shows:
Breaking Bad - fantastic show. I wasn't the happiest person with regards to the ending of season 4 but i fucken love that show. Boardwalk Empire - Just amazing. Everything about it is perfect. The acting the sets the costumes. Louie - HILARIOUS!!! Don't need to say anything else. For Animation I'm in love with Bob's Burgers and Archer. I still love How I Met Your Mother. My new favourite sitcom is New Girl. Perfect in every way. Game Of Thrones - Mother fucken Game of THRONES!!!! The Killing is the most depressing show i've watched and actually had to stop for a while because i couldn't handle it but it's such an amazing edge-of-your-seat show. The Walking Dead always gets your heart racing and the season of nothing happening was worth sitting through for the last 10 minutes of the season final. Mike and Molly, Raising Hope and Melissa and Joey are all worth watching, feel good shows. The nerd in me feels enough people don't know about Eureka and should.

Not So Great Shows:
I'm proud to say i've finally quit True Blood. Talk about a shit show. It made me soo angry but i'm not one to finish mid season so i toughed it out. Also, I'm pretty disappointed with how this years season of Dexter went. It turned really soapie and lame. I still can't tell if Colin Hanks was acting really well or REALLY BADLY. Season ending was a twist which HOPEFULLY will improve next season. Entourage's ending was what BJ described as and i quote 'A pile of shit'. Glee has been stinkin' pretty bad since the end of season 1. This season of Chuck has been a bit lagging which makes me sad.

So there is a little insight to SOME of the TV I've watched this year. (I watch a fuckload of TV).

BJ are I are trying to decide weather to watch a TV show or movies to bring us into 2012.  So i may have to add to this later on.
Hope everyone has a safe and happy new year.
2012 is going to be the best!!

Made my day

Today is my friend Katherine's birthday and so naturally i wrote on her facebook wall wishing her an awesome day.

The response i got from her is something i've never really had anyone say to me before.

'Thank you Megan! Would just like you say that you have been pretty inspirational lately and you have inspired me to make a few changes! So thank you!'

Awwww... Made my heart feel full as soon as i read it.

It's such a nice thing to hear from someone.
Especially with all the high's and low's i've dealt with this year. To have someone else notice that i've changed and feel inspired by what i've done just made me soo happy i could cry.

So thank you Katherine because you truly made my day!

I can't wipe this smile off my face and i feel more motivated to try and continue to inspire people in the future.

12 months ago - Part 2

Week to of our USA trip in 2010 was to St Augustine, Florida.
An awesome little town where some friends of ours lived.

Ronald, Lisa and Linc hosted us for the week and we went on some advertures. We went to the Alligator Farm which was awesome fun (But bloody hot). We got to experience Steak 'n' Shake. We did a heap of shopping and we went to see the Dolphin's. AND BJ drove for the first time in the States, which was scary/exciting.

Here are some photos of my memories:

That statue's penis is HUGE
Hahahaha this photo still makes me laugh. I told BJ to pose with the statue but Linc joined in as well.

Turtle Face!!

Naturally if there is a giant animal statue, we get to climb on it's back for photos.

I LOVE WALMART!!!! Found season 1-4 of The Pretender on DVD... HAD to buy them!

We took Linc swimming which was a lot of fun. Shame the pool didn't really have any shade from the sun so we couldn't stay there for too long.

Here are some photos of the dolphin's. They are such show ponies.

I love the look on Linc's face

GIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIR!!
We had soo much fun seeing Ronald, Lisa and Linc again. It'd been 2 years since we last visited and Linc had grown soo much.

St Augustine is such a nice place to go to. It's the oldest town in the States and has heaps of ghost history.
The main street of shops is lovely to walk with lot's of yummy candy stores and restuarants.

We miss you St Augustine.
