Homemade 6th Birthday Present

Last week my niece Kaia had her 6th birthday. Normally I have a plan well ahead of time of what I want to do for peoples birthday presents but since we bought the house I've been a bit stuck coming up with ideas.

I love making presents but what can you make a 6 year old and have them get the enjoyment out of it as they would any other birthday present.

Over the years I've made LOT'S of presents: Scrapbooks, art, figurines, jewelry, food etc but this birthday was hard.

And then it came to me.... I knew exactly what to make her and have her love it.

I made Kaia her own personalised game of Memory.

Kaia LOVES playing Memory and I knew this would be a hit.

I picked out 12 photos of her - Fun memories like our family trip to the zoo, her weekend with George (the class teddy bear), Cooking with BJ, her first day of school and Meeting Santa.
I designed a cute little back for the cards and laminated them all so they last.

Packaged them all in a cute box I've been holding on to for years and with some alphabet stickers 'Kaia's Memory Game' was complete.

She liked them soo much that i plan to make her two more sets - One for at Aunty Megan's house and one for at Nana's so she'll always have them on hand to play. (Oh and just so you know that's not ALL that i gave her for the big 6).

Coming soon... Homemade party decorations

Wild Bore Xmas

Soon after BJ and I start our podcast Fork This BJ and our mates Pat and Speds started an audio podcast called Wild Bore. (I recommend you all listen to it as it's very entertaining.)

Not longer after they started the podcast BJ and I went garage saling and I found a chocolate mold of bore heads.... That's right!!

I decided right then that i would spend the 50cents and buy that chocolate mold and make the members of Wild Bore a christmas present they'll never forget.

Now i know i've already blogged a little bit about this as we did a Fork This episode of us creating these presents but i thought i'd show you some more photos of the finished products and also the faces of the recipients.

If you missed the episode of Fork This here it is ...And this is the final product

I didn't noticed till just now that none of them look happy about their gift in their photos hahaha.

I'm soo happy with how these turned out. A couple of issues i had were that the mold was difficult to release the chocolate without it breaking (I had a chocolate bore graveyard by the end of the day.) I was also planning to 'mount' the bore head to a cookie but had a few issues making that work. I think the shield with the Wild Bore logo turned out awesome.
Also, they were a BITCH to wrap.

I plan to make lot's of bore heads in the future. Think i'll try and do a resin bore for something.

Looking to the future

Recently i got my friend Jessica Mullen from The Popular Podcast to do a reading for me to give me a little idea of what my  future holds.

She did a three card reading which came up really positive and helped me look forward to the rest of 2011.

Past: 9 of cups reversed
Present: wheel of fortune
Future: the sun

The 9 of cups indicates that you may have been spiritually empty in the past. Drained, not satisfied with your internal world.
The wheel of fortune indicates that you have gathered enough power to take control of your own fate. All of your power, all of your potential fortune, lies in the present.
The sun represents becoming enlightened - to be literally lit up with light.

The Outcome:
The reading means that while you may have felt empty or unsatisfied before, you now have a turning point available in your present situation. You can't make the wrong decision - what's important is that you arrived at the turning point at all. You can't go back from there!
The sun is your future no matter what choice you make. Light! Vision! Clarity!
It really put a smile on my face to see that life is moving ahead and that my future WILL be bright and happy.

Thanks for the reading Jessica :)
